Why its important for Test and Tag?

As per WorkSafe QLD safety & prevention guidelines, specified electrical equipment need to be tested and tagged regularly, according to the type of work they are used for.

Efficient & OHS compliant electrical test & tag services across the construction, manufacturing, service & commercial sectors.

We ensure that all corded equipment meet the requirements of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 legislation so your business or organisation can meet your minimum requirements under your tenancy agreements, insurance policies & ensure the safety of your tenants, employees & customers.

What do I need to Test and Tag to be compliant?

Specified electrical equipment and safety switches need to be tested andt tagged at intervals according to type of work they are used for. For construction work this information is in AS/NZS 3012 Electrical installations – Construction and demolition sites. For manufacturing, service, office, amusement and rural industry work, information is in the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013.

Additional information is also available in AS/NZS 3760 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment.

A durable tag must be attached after inspecting and testing to clearly show the test date and the next scheduled test and inspection date.

TESTING AND TAGGING IS MORE THAN JUST PUTTING A STICKER ON A LEAD

External Inspection of equipment

Checking for damage, defects, wear or modifications to the equipment. Checking the plugs / connectors for discolouration and wear; A possible sign of excessive heat, loose electrical connection, chemical or moisture exposure.

Protective Earth Continuity Test

Ensuring the resistance is sufficiently low to ensure correct operation of the equipment.

Insulation Test

Testing the leakage current insulation resistance of the device.

Polarity

Ensuring correct wiring has been completed of the equipment, It is not uncommon to see the neutral and live conductors reversed.

Records

In addition to the test and tag, you must also keep records of inspections, test results and maintenance, and where applicable, risk assessment reports. This documentation must be produced within 24 hours of a request being made by a Workplace Health and Safety Inspector.
